Melbourne's Munt play a hybrid mix of extreme metal that draws energy from many sources.

Their underlying atmosphere is informed by venomous and bitter black metal that melds into the frantic charge of chaotic grindcore, with a pounding D-beat influence that fuses seamlessly with percussive, modern hardcore sensibilities.

Entering 2023 with their new EP, PAIN OUROBOROS, the band re-emerge in an evolved form, leaning further into infusing death metal into an already vicious experience.... and while fast paced destruction will always dominate the landscape, there is still room for the slow-paced crushing doom of a tar-coated sludge riff.

HISTORY

Munt was originally started by guitarist David "Spud" Robertson as a solo/collaborative studio project in 2016. Having then relocated to Melbourne, Australia from Scotland, an idea formed to release a self-produced EP with collaborative efforts from musicians around the globe. The end result was an EP titled THE MIND IS A CAGE, which was released in October 2016 featuring several guest vocalists on each song. Drums were performed and recorded by George Henry (Gendo Ikari) in Glasgow, with all main vocals, guitar, bass, and production was carried out in Melbourne by Spud.

Over the course of the next 2 years Spud would begin to rehearse with local musicians, and new music started to form. In 2018, with a full band, Munt began recording with Jamie Marinos (Pridelands) and released 2 stand alone singles STRIGES and SEEDS OF THE MACHINE. Live shows in Australia had then begun...

In 2019 Munt settled on a permanent formation of members featuring Ronnie Dixon (bass), Sol Laskowski (guitar), Tim Richmond (vocals), Seb Alcock (drums) and Spud (guitar/vocals) rounding out the band. They recorded their debut EP TOWARDS EXTINCTION which was released in August 2019. Munt embarked on an east coast tour of Australia in support of the release as well as getting the opportunity to support international acts such as HEXIS and PRIMITIVE MAN.

As 2020 began and the world faced a global pandemic, and with the departure of drummer Seb, the band found themselves isolated from each other for the best part of the next year. However they used the time to begin writing for what would become the next release. A false start of the return of live music in 2021 cancelled several planned shows with various lockdown measures coming back into place.

As the world started putting the pandemic turmoil behind us in 2022, Munt entered Danger Tone Studios in Melbourne with Luke Walton (Blunt Shovel, BloodDuster) at the helm to engineer and produce the next release. The band also welcomed new drummer Jared Roberts (Desecrator) at this point, and got out within Australia for a handful of shows, road-testing the new material.

Now, PAIN OUROBOROS is born, a new 5 track EP that has just been released, along with 2 killer music videos. Check it out and join us on our musical journey.
